You've probably have seen students, young professionals (yuppies), and office staff wear a strap of some sort around their necks. Even security guards, Call Center agents, trade show participants or just about those involved in a job or school wear a Lanyard (or locally known as ID LACE) with an object attached on a hook at its end.
What is a Lanyard?
A Lanyard is a strap made from durable cloth material, usually cotton or polyester.

I think that lanyards will soon enough be replacing uniforms for jobs that don't require any form of face to face interaction with the client. When I started my new job they gave me an employee ID and one of their usb lanyards and I must say it actually felt like I was part of something, in place of a uniform that you are pretty much forced to wear, feels like being part of a secret club.
Lanyards are really useful and actually a part of the uniform.
